Oil Testing

Oil testing is part of a regular maintenance routine but when doing a visual inspection of it, how much do you really understand about what you are looking at? It might look ok but without a proper analysis, how can you really be sure that it has no contaminants?

‘Checking the oil’ is a very basic form of condition monitoring and if you know what to look for, the condition of that oil can tell you a lot about the equipment it is lubricating. Oil testing should always be a fundamental part of any regular maintenance or condition monitoring based programs to provide a valuable insight to the condition of the equipment it is lubricating.

Oil analysis (hydraulic or lubricant) performed routinely as part of a condition based maintenance strategy provides powerful information on the lubricant and therefore machine condition. By trending oil analysis sample results over the life of a machine, trends can be understood which can in turn help to extend mean time before failure (MTBF) and eliminate costly breakdowns.

AVT Reliability use a number of laboratories to perform the analysis of samples to interpret the trends and data and in turn provide recommendations to our clients with regards to any necessary repairs.

AVT supply the equipment, procedures and training to ensure that all oil samples are collected in the appropriate manner to ensure no additional contamination occurs which could skew any results.

AVT’s analysts are certified in compliance with ISO standards having passed exams administered by the International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML).

By keeping a close eye on the lubrication of your machinery, you will get an accurate view of how your equipment is performing and if anything is fundamentally wrong or likely to go wrong. Through careful analysis often in a laboratory, any minute particles or contamination can be identified and provide you with a valuable insight into the future of your equipment.
